Bei der Rock Machine stieB diese Praxis jedoch auf erbitterten Widerstand. Es folgte ein siebenjahriger Kleinkrieg, der 160 Leben kostete und noch mehr Verwundete hinterlieB. Da die Rock Machine zahlenmaBig hoffnungslos unterlegen war, suchte man Verbundete und die Wahl fiel auf die Bandidos, dem einzigen weltweiten Club, der es mit den Angels aufnehmen konnte. Nach zahen Verhandlungen horte die Rock Machine 2001 zu existieren auf und wurde ein Bandidos-Chapter auf Probe.
Ed Winterhalder wurde von den amerikanischen Bandidos beauftragt, die ehemalige Rock Machine auf Bandido-Kurs zu trimmen. Der kanadische Staat hatte etwas dagegen und es folgte ein Kleinkrieg mit der Einwanderungsbehorde. Intrigen, Seitenwechsel und Anschlage lieBen den Krieg zwischen den kanadischen Parteien dann wieder neu aufflammen und die Wendung, die er nahm, war nicht die, die man sich erhofft hatte....

In the early 1990s, Maurice “Mom” Boucher and his fellow Montreal Hells Angels, reputedly the most ruthless and vicious bikers in the world, subdued all comers except the tough-as-nails members of the Rock Machine. Founded by Salvatore Cazzetta, an ex-friend of Boucher, the Rock Machine had every intention of standing up against the Hells Angels. Seven years of bloody conflict, which left over 160 people dead and countless injured, was the result. Heavily outnumbered, the Rock Machine appealed to the worldwide Bandidos Motorcycle Club, who rivaled the Hells Angels in terms of membership and strength. In January 2000, the Rock Machine ceased to exist and became a probationary Bandidos chapter – the first to be established on Canadian soil.
Biker Edward Winterhalder was assigned by the Bandidos to coordinate the transition. Although the stage had been set for an end to the biker war and a positive outcome for all, it was anything but. Starting with the arrest and unsuccessful deportation proceedings of Winterhalder by the Canadian authorities, more intrigue, assassinations, and double-crosses, Winterhalder found himself in a situation even he found impossible to control.
In The Assimilation, Winterhalder – in collaboration with author Wil De Clercq – recalls his life and times as an outlaw biker; his personal involvement in the creation of the Quebec Bandidos; his friendship with the key players who made it happen; and his eventual disillusionment with, and exit from, the Bandidos Nation.

Edward Winterhalder ist langjahriger Biker, Unternehmer und war ein Bandidos-Funktionar. Nun bearbeitet er sowohl journalistisch (Doku-Film & Sachbuch) als auch schriftstellerisch (Romane) das Thema “Biker”.
Wil de Clercq ist ein freischaffender Journalist und Mitglied des Wahlkomittees zur kanadischen Motorsport-Hall of Fame.
About the Authors (English):
Edward Winterhalder, who was a high-ranking world leader of the notorious Bandidos Motorcycle Club until his departure from the club in late 2003, is now one of the world’s leading authorities on motorcycle clubs.
Wil De Clercq has worked as a freelance writer, a visual artist, merchant marine, and faux finish painting. His connection to the outlaw biker world dates back to the 1960s. He recently wrote an article on Edward Winterlader for Performance Racing News and is an appointed member of the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee.
